Design with a Purpose. What Does it Mean?
Simply put, our mission is to bring both hope and a tangible increase in the standard of living to children in the rural communities served by our local, on the ground charity partners. Global childhood poverty is not a new issue, and in recent years, enormous strides have been made to combat this problem. Despite these efforts, however, it is estimated that approximately 663 million children worldwide still live in poverty (Unicef, 2020).

The COVID-19 pandemic and the associated fallout now threaten not only to undo much of the progress of the past, but also to greatly increase the number of poverty stricken children globally. (The Economist, May 2020).

We have currently centered our efforts on rural communities within the island nation of Jamaica. While many are familiar with the island's magnificent powdery white sand beaches and the luxurious hotels frequented by millions of international tourists annually, few are aware of the ongoing, inter-generational poverty and despair that exists within the inner-cities and in many of the deeply rural areas of this beautiful country. In many of these communities, children live in substandard conditions, in homes badly in need of repair, and with little or no nearby recreational facilities or activities to partake in.

Our local partner, Youth Mentoring Ministry (YMM), is a registered Jamaican Charity, governed by a Board of Directors, and recognized as a Registered Charitable Organization under Section 2 and Section 17 of the Charities Act, 2013, and operated in accordance with the laws established by the Government of Jamaica. The organization has developed a wonderful program to assist some of these children. It provides participants with Bible based Christian mentoring, youth summer camps, educational financial assistance and opportunities for social development. Resources are, however, stretched thin, and so only a fraction of those in underserved communities can actually be reached and offered assistance.

Our mission is twofold. First, to support the work of our partner organization, and second, to expand their reach by offering free home repair and rehab to needy member families and other individuals within the communities they serve.
